Shanghainese 上海话: Amazing! 厉害！

This was another Shanghainese word that I learned somewhat early on. Mx’s mom and dad, my mother and father-in-law, would always say it and always add it to conversations. Finally at one point I asked Mx, “What is dad saying?” And it thus, became a part of my vocabulary.

This is an amazing video that Mx found the other day. It’s long, about 10 minutes, and it’s just photos but the music is amazing. Basically it’s Shanghainese RAP! Hilarious. Since it’s 10 minutes the rapper mentions almost everything about Shanghai! See if you can hear “XIAO LONG BAO” and the Subway announcements. THIS IS DEFINITELY HIGH LEVEL SHANGHAINESE! If you are a rookie…forget it!
