I guess I’m an atypical Westerner, since I enjoy good-quality baijiu, and when offered a choice between Great Wall red wine and decent baijiu, I’ll pick the baijiu every time. Still, I can understand that many non-Chinese can’t handle the strong flavor and high alcohol content.
Oh, I already have been popular at a Chinese banquet! A co-worker once invited me to attend her friend’s wedding banquet. I was the only foreigner present and everyone at my table insisted on toasting me; when the bridal party came around, one of the fathers was eager to toast me too. I managed my intake of baijiu and didn’t get drunk.

Some love it some can’t stand it. I think you would be popular at a Chinese banquet, William!
