Every Friday I used to go to the Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf in downtown Shanghai for a cup of coffee and a muffin. There I would get my fix of Shanghai’s Expat magazines like City Weekend, SH 8Days, THAT’S SHANGHAI, SHANGHAI TALK etc etc. There was one that was a classifieds magazine and it was not really something I always looked for. But the main reason I grabbed it week after week was because there was always a comic strip in the back with a very simple dialogue in English and Chinese. That interested me but I don’t think I ever went to their website though. That website was AskBenny.

Fast forward to this weekend when I logged onto my YouTube page and found a recommendation section where, sure enough, there was this ASK BENNY videos. I clicked on it and Mx and I were somewhat entertained if not annoyed. There were many videos/lessons and the amount of subscribers was amazing. He has over 5,000 subscribers and almost 600 “friends”. Take a look and tell us what you think. He’s teaching Chinese. He’s spreading the word about Chinese. Which is all good in my opinion. He’s a little goofy and the music is kind of loud and annoying. But who could resist this “MICRO lesson” with Miss Shanghai, even though her name is “BOBO”?

I looked on Youku.com for his videos and it came up with NOTHING! They did refer me to ONE VIDEO on Tudou.com which I posted here. Sorry both videos are not the same but this is the best I could do.
