Learning Chinese Gets More Local: Pioneer Valley Chinese Immersion School, Western Massachusetts
I talked with a few friends this weekend as MX was teaching her weekly Chinese class and I was surprised to hear about a Chinese Immersion school near my hometown in Western Massachusetts. I was able to find their site and also a video from the local TV station. For those of you in China, I’m sorry that I couldn’t find anything about it on YOUKU. But who knows… this isn’t a YOUTUBE video.
The idea that in Western Mass, I could have my 2 year old son be in an immersion school like this is amazing. The other issue is that it really shows how much America has changed since I grew up. My parents would never have sent us kids to a Chinese immersion school and for good reason. They wouldn’t have been able to check our homework and find out what we talked about in class that day. I am sure there are many immersion schools all over the US but this one hits particularly close to home for me.
We’ll have to look into it.
